If you were not able to make it to one of the Des Moines Men’s home games this season, you missed out! YOUR TEAM put on a display and scored over 10 tries per game and our A Team only had 2 tries scored against them. Over the course of two seasons the Men’s Team has transformed its “style of play” into a very fast, exciting, and expansive form of rugby. The Coaching philosophy is very simple…RUN STRAIGHT AND CONTROL THE CONTACT.

We started our season off returning to Rugger Fest in St. Louis. We traveled with only 4 of our starting 15 and our “New Boys” got loads of playing time. Like all road trips, the festivities were great! We then went on to Wayne State where we made a few positional changes to accommodate the “numbers”. This move not only helped us win the tournament, but also helped the Coaches experiment with players in different positions. It proved valuable for the rest of the season.

When we returned to Des Moines to play some home games, we were very pleased to have “The Hill” filled with fans and Old Boys.

Men’s Rugby

We saw an influx of new and “old” players during this Spring season and have built a huge platform for this coming Fall season. Des Moines Rugby won the Wayne State Tournament, and had a solid tournament record of 6W -4L. If you were able to make it to a home game, you were able to see our A and B sides go undefeated against the Pigs, Woodsmen, ISU, and Grinnell combined.

Women’s Rugby

Very exciting to see the revival of our women program! Our Ladies attended the indoor training during the Winter and then Men’s training during the Spring. The girls did a great job recruiting and finished the season unbeaten. They dominated everyone they played, scoring 50 plus points in each match.

High School Rugby

2015 Saw the revival of the High School Rugby program and we had over 30 active players throughout the season. The Des Moines High School Rugby Program is run by Members of the Des Moines Rugby Club, and Coached by Corey DeBord. It offers our young High School 7’s players a great opportunity to learn the 15’s side of the game before heading off to college.

The High School Rugby Season starts on 17th May 2016 at the Des Moines Rugby Club with practices on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30pm till 6pm. We encourage our Old Boys to come down and watch these young athletes.

U22 Rugby

Over the last 5 years, there have been a number of “graduating 7’s” players who have stayed in Des Moines, but not played rugby for the Men’s Team. With the High School Rugby Team being the feeder pool for the U22 Program, Des Moines Rugby now has a transition step to the Men’s Rugby Team. Players will need to complete one FULL SEASON with the U22 Program before graduating to the Men’s Rugby Team.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to our SPONSORS. Over the last year, we have teamed up with Players, Coaches, and Old Boys to obtain sponsorships that help make everything possible. Without these sponsors, none of this would be possible.

Dahlquist Construction sponsored the Men’s Jerseys. Thank you Eric Dahlquist.
Ashworth Chiropractic sponsored the Men’s Shorts. Thank you Matt Wilson.
Invisible Fence sponsored the High School Jerseys. Thank you Andy Timm.
